ARTIST RECEPTION | January 18 | 4 - 7 PM

We’re pleased to host Carrie Penley in an artist reception to celebrate her forthcoming series: “The Painted Word”. Known for her unique approach to wildlife portraiture, blending collage compiled from vintage sheet music, news material and various found objects, Penley adds a sense of liveliness, drama, and folklore to the contemporary west.  Her viewers quite literally get lost in the details of written script which permeate throughout the details of each work, or simply step back to take in the fullness of the artwork. The collage details help build up the foreground gestures, highlighting an interconnectedness between our history and present moment, and the continuation of our shared heritage and desire to continually reinvigorate our new west. This oscillation between the macro picture in entirety juxtaposed to the micro details of the literature is a a story in of itself.

“The Painted Word” kicks off with an artist reception on Thursday, January 18, from 5 - 8 pm, at Gallery Wild in Jackson Hole. Join us to step into “The Painted Word” and share a refreshment with the  artist behind the work. We hope to see you there!
